Leona Lewis was born on April 3, 1985 in the British capital London. She is the daughter of Joe Lewis from the Caribbean and Maria Lewis from Wales. Thus, she has both Caribbean and Welsh roots. Leona is the middle of 3 children.

At the age of 12, Leona writes her first song, and at 13 she wins a young talent competition called Lady-D of the Hackney Empire. To nurture her talent, her parents enroll Leona in the Sylvia Young Theatre School as well as the Brit Academy. This path leads Leona Lewis directly from “The X-Factor” to international pop heaven.

The artist currently lives in the London borough of Hackney. In 2010 she gives up the long-term relationship with her childhood friend Lou Al-Chamaa. Still in 2010 Leona Lewis gets acquainted with Dennis Jauch, a professional dancer from Germany, and finds a new love. He is a backup dancer on Leona’s tour and also worked for Alicia Keys, Kylie Minogue and Beyoncé. He won the dance show called “You Can Dance.” In 2019, the couple is getting married.

Music career

In 2006, Leona is a participant in a casting of the 3rd season of “The X Factor”. As a 21-year-old singer, she wins this show and no one can guess what career she begins from then on. Now she passes numerous qualifying rounds with flying colors and already a record contract with Sony BMG for £1,000,000 beckons. Shortly after, she releases her first single “A Moment Like This”, which is ordered 1,000,000 times in advance. In 2007, her debut album “Spirit” is released and the title “Bleeding Love” on it immediately reaches the first place in the singles charts.

“Bleeding Love” celebrates great success and other countries also become aware of the British singer. Thus, Leona Lewis songs also appear outside of Great Britain. US magazines call Leona Lewis a Mariah Carey or one of the most interesting newcomers of 2008. In 2008 Leona releases her second album “Echo”, on which Justin Timberlake also collaborates. In 2009, Leona releases a new album and a fragrance. She is active in animal welfare and also campaigns for children’s rights. Some of the proceeds from perfume sales go to various children’s charities. To the motion picture Avatar Leona Lewis contributed the song “I See You”, which also appeared in the form of a single.
