Lukas Graham is a music group from Denmark, more precisely from Copenhagen. The boys all attended the same school, but were not in the same class. They formed the band in 2009, when they also recorded their first tracks. But this band is anything but an ordinary project of a few teenagers. The story of the group tells much more than adult artists can say about themselves. A project that became a success

The band gets its name after the frontman Lukas Graham, who was born and raised in the settlement of Christiana in Denmark. Lukas has been musically active since he was a child. In his community, he sang in the church choir. The older he got, the more his musical taste developed in a completely different direction.

Lukas Graham play several styles, which they combine with each other. Their music is a mixture of pop, funk, soul and hip hop. Quite in the youthful style. But Lukas Graham songs do not sound childish or harmless. You can hear serious themes from the lyrics.

Frontman Lukas Graham tried his hand at acting and voice acting in addition to church choir in his home country. But that didn’t last long, the love for music was stronger and so he set off on a wide and exciting journey with his band mates.

The guys really took off when they recorded their first two tracks in the studio at Forchhammers in 2011. These were the Lukas Graham songs “Criminal Mind” and “Drunk in the Morning”. Success came overnight, so to speak, and suddenly the newcomers from Denmark became real stars who have also made a name for themselves outside their country. At first, the videos spread via Facebook. After that, their career took off.

The first record deal is not long in coming

In the same year the label Copenhagen Records became aware of Lukas Graham and the band signed their first real record deal. Shortly after, the song “Ordinary Things” is released, which causes a stir. More and more people take a liking to the band and the first big gigs take place regionally. Although they don’t have their own album on the market yet, the guys sell 30,000 tickets for their concerts.

It is not until 2021 that the first album named after the band itself is released. And it became a real hit. Already in the first two weeks after the band releases the album, it reaps gold. In their home country Denmark Lukas Graham can be happy about a total of 4 times platinum for their album, while the Lukas Graham songs “Ordinary Things”, “Drunk in the Morning” and “Criminal Mind” are all platinum as well. The band owes this success to all four of them, Lukas Forchhammer, Stefan Forrest, Sebastian Fogh and Brandon Beal, who wrote and composed all the tracks themselves. Awards are also raining down in abundance after the release. The Lukas Graham songs are nominated for the Danish Music Award and the Echo in Denmark, an incredible seven times. They also receive an award for best newcomer.

What style brings Lukas Graham so far

The style of this band is anything but average and commercial. They rather write songs that should be musically real. This means that they work less with studio elements and more with real instruments. The frontman himself describes the songs of his band as unique, individual, inspired by big names like the Beatles and above all one thing, his own songs and with message.

International successes

After Denmark Lukas Graham takes off as well in other European countries. Thus, in Italy in 2019 they receive the Golden Record for the title “Love Someone”. In Poland in 2016 there is gold for the single “Mama Told”, while in Sweden in 2016 they were rewarded with gold for the song Golden.
