Kim Wilde is one of the most successful singers of the 80’s with 30 million records sold. The 80’s hit singles “Cambodia” and “Kids In America” took Kim Wilde to the top of the charts in the early 80’s. The catchy synth-pop melodies combined with a lot of sex appeal ensured that the singer is still one of the most successful pop stars in the world today.

Kim Wilde (real name Kimberly Smith) was born on 18.11.1964 in Chiswick in the west of London. At the age of 20, the singer signed her first record deal and stormed the charts a year later with the 80s hits “Cambodia” and “Kids in America”. In 1981, her debut album cemented her status as a pop queen and Kim Wilde became one of the world’s most popular singers alongside Blondie and Cyndi Lauper. In 1988, the singer performed as the opening act for Michael Jackson and in 1990 in front of David Bowie. In 1992, the charming singer returned with the album “Love Is …” before embarking on a new career path at the beginning of 1996 and spending a year in the English musical production “Tommy”.
After Kim Wilde appeared on Channel 4 from 1997 with her garden series Garden Invaders, in which the former pop icon presented herself in rubber boots and with a watering can, she went on her first successful UK tour again in 2001 together with Paul Young and Curiousity Killed the Cat, among others. In 2002 Wilde goes on tour again – this time together with 80s stars Visage, The Human League and Dollar and is also on stage at Nena’s anniversary concert in Frankfurt am Main. The encounter with Nena resulted in the cover version “Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime” of the hit “Irgendwie Irgendwo Irgendwann”. This brought Wilde a new record contract with EMI/Capitol. Her comeback album entitled “Never Say Never” is released in 2006, with Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen as producer. In 2009, Kim Wilde records the single “Run To You” with the Gothenburg-based Fibes, Oh Fibes! which lands her in the Swedish charts.
Kim Wilde – an icone as well in Germany (ARD Brisant report)
In Germany in particular, Wilde remains ever-present through her numerous appearances on TV and at festivals, with her album “Come Out And Play” (2010) sometimes serving as the basis for her tours. Kim Wilde’s status as an 80s icon is also solidified by a number of tributes, such as the album “Grey To Fade” by Charlotte Hatherley. Over the many decades of her career, the music of this exceptional artist offers an excellent overview of a wide variety of musical styles and trends. Her engaging singing voice gives the songs a particularly charming touch and an unmistakable character to this day.
