Ocean Estate – Where it all started
Born in Trinidad, Billy moved to London’s East End with his parents when he was just seven years old. The calypso-crazy boy soon turned to soul singers like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, as well as pop groups like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and spent most of his youth and college years in the music room.
Breakthrough in the seventies
Billy Ocean made his first breakthrough when he signed with GTO Records. The single released from the debut album “Love Really Hurts Without You” (1976) reached #2 in the UK charts and #22 in the US. Two Top 20 singles followed; “Love on Delivery” and “Stop Me”, then “Red Light Spells Danger” became a hit in both the UK and US. In 2016 Billy Ocean enchants with his Red Light in the live show on the summer tour with Chris de Burgh, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band for NDR.

His music of the 80s – unforgettable pop classics
Billy switched record companies and his move to Jive Records in the 80’s created instant success, with millions of American number one hits sold. Among them “Caribbean Queen” (Grammy for Best R&B Vocal), followed by “Loverboy” and “Suddenly”, which became the first of Billy’s famous ballads. The album from which these singles were taken lasted a year on the US charts and sold double platinum (triple in Canada). Billy also played in the American version of Live Aid and musically made the 80s a truly incredible decade for him.
