Die Musik der achtziger Jahre hatte es in sich und das in jedweder Hinsicht. Die Künstler waren schrill, skurril, schön schräg. Viele hatten ein Outfit, dass einem Statement gleichkam. Wir erinnern uns an extravagante Auftritte und es wurde Musikgeschichte geschrieben. Neue Musikrichtungen wie die Neue Deutsche Welle etablierten sich und Synthie Pop à la Depeche Mode kam ganz groß raus. Das Pop-Genre hatte ihren Höhepunkt mit großen Stars wie Michael Jackson, Madonna oder auch Elton John.
Unvergleichlich und unvergessen – die Stars der 80er
Aber vor allem die vielen verschiedenen Popgruppen der 80er Stars, die jede Woche die Charts der Hitparaden stürmten, haben sich unvergessen in die Herzen ihrer Fans mit ihrer Musik gespielt. Namen wie Alphaville, Sandra, Duran Duran sowie Rick Astley bleiben fester Bestandteil der Musik der 80er Jahre. Viele finden nach wie vor ihren Weg in die Charts mit neuen und alten Hits und treten auf den großen Bühnen der Welt auf.
History of the British pop band Matt Bianco
Wer bei der Nennung der 80er Stars absolut nicht fehlen darf, ist die britische Popband Matt Bianco. Diese außergewöhnliche Musikgruppe hat ihren ganz eigenen Musikstil geschaffen in Form einer Mischung aus Ethno-Jazz, Latin Music und Pop. Ihre mitreißenden Klänge gepaart mit eingängigen Texten haben schnell die Charts der Popmusik erreicht und sich eine große Fangemeinde geschaffen. In ihrer ursprünglichen Besetzung wurde die Band 1982 in Großbritannien gegründet. Der Bandname Matt Bianco ist fiktiv und basiert nicht, wie man vielleicht denken könnte, auf dem Namen einer der Bandmitglieder, sondern ist der Name eines selbst erdachten Spions. Die Künstler mochten Agentenfilme – et volià, der Name stand fest.
In their first line-up the band consisted of front singer Mark Reilly, bassist Kito Poncioni and Danny White, who played the keyboard; for the background vocals, the Polish Baisa Trzetrzelewska was taken on board. The keyboarder left Matt Bianco after a short time to start a solo career together with the Polish singer Basia, so that Mark Fisher was engaged. He had already been on tour with the British band Wham! He remained with the pop band Matt Bianco until his death in 2016 and produced most of the most successful songs and record albums together with Mark Reilly. The singer Jenni Evans was also hired and stayed with the band until 1986. Bassist Kito Poncioni also left the band early to return to his native Brazil. Therefore, the band had the greatest successes under Mark Reilly and Mark Fisher and the duo had immense triumphs and filled concert halls.
The great success of Matt Bianco
The first big hit of the 80s stars was “Get out of your lazy Bed” in 1984, which lasted more than 30 weeks in the German charts alone and also stormed the charts in the United Kingdom. The single was a release of the first album “Whose Side are you on?“, which became more than successful. This was followed by the hits “Sneaking out the Backdoor“, “Whose Side are you on?” and their phenomenal hit “Half a Minute“, which probably remained in the ears of everyone who enjoyed the 80s until today. In 1986 the album followed, which was released under their band name Matt Bianco and from which the singles “Yeh Yeh“, “Just can’t stand it” and “Dancing in the Street” were extracted. The producer Emilio Estefan and husband of Gloria Estefan was hired by the two and produced the album “Indigo” together with the two artists, from which four singles like “Don’t blame it on that girl” and “Wap-Bam-Boogie” were released. A Best Of album was released in 1990.

In 2002, the successful duo separated. For some time frontman Mark Reilly got together again with the early retired Danny White and the singer Basia Trzetrzelewska and together they released the record album “Matt’s Mood“, with which the three musicians started their world tour in 2005. They played in the USA, Japan and Great Britain. However, this formation only considered this one album, as well as the following tour and the three, separated again afterwards. Until the death of Mark Fisher the two successful artists produced again under the successful name of the pop band Matt Bianco and released several albums like “Hifi Bossanova” and “Hideaway“.
Mark Reilly in his own way
Nachdem in den ganzen Jahren sowieso die meisten Fans dachten, Mark Reilly sei Matt Bianco in Person, machte dieser nun nach dem Tod von Mark Fisher alleine weiter und nahm zusammen mit der niederländischen Big Band New Cool Collective ein Album auf. Er veröffentlichte das Album „Gravity“ und brachte die früheren Alben in einer Deluxe-Version auf den Markt. Der Erfolg ist seit Anfang der 80er Jahre ungebrochen und der Sänger Mark Reilly mit seiner gefühlvollen Stimme haucht seinem Alias Matt Bianco Leben ein. Er gehört definitiv zu den Stars der 80er – Matt Bianco. Die Musikrichtung, die mit New Jazz zu benennen ist, findet nach wie vor großen Anklang bei den Fans.
