The name Ace of Base stands for the Swedish pop group that became famous in the international charts in the 90s with their songs like “All That She Wants” or “Happy Nation”. One of the main founders of Ace of Base is Jonas Berggren, who was able to recruit his two sisters Malin and Jenny as singers. Besides the three siblings, his friend Ulf Ekberg joined on synthesizer and the band was complete in 1990.
A Swedish band conquers the world
Their career then began in 1991, when Ace of Base was signed by the record company Mega Records. In 1992, their very first single “Wheel of Fortune” was released, which became famous all over Scandinavia and even made it to the charts. With this first success, Ace of Base gained an Europe-wide record deal with the record company Metronome Records. A little later, the band finally achieved great success in the U.S. In 1993, the band was nominated for three Grammys. “Happy Nation” became the best selling debut album. This even earned the band an entry in the Guinness Book of Records in 1995.

Ace of Base in the 90s
In 1995 the second album of the band was released. “The Bridge” sold about 5 million copies around the world. With this record the band even achieved platinum status. In the song “Ravine” Jenny Berggren deals with a traumatic event that she and her mother experienced in 1994. Together they were attacked by a girl with a knife in their mother’s house. In 1998 the third album “Flowers” was released. Malin Berggren was the main singer of the band until that time. However, she withdrew more and more and did not appear much in public, so Jenny Berggren became the only singer of the band. After a short break, the band released a new album in 2002, called “Da Capo”. With this album the band could celebrate success in Asia for the first time. In 2007 it became known that Malin Berggren would leave the band.
Jenny Berggren on solo path with the hits of Ace of Base
In 2009 Jenny Berggren also announced that she would leave the band. She preferred to try to start as a solo artist, because the band had not produced any good songs after Malin’s departure. However, the band still needed two new singers again. Berggren and Ekberg continued the band with singers Clara Hagman and Julia Williamson.
2010 then finally the new beginning. In July 2010, a new single and a new album were released. This album catapulted them directly back into the German album charts. In 2014, the “All That She Wants” song was released as a new edition and with many different remix versions. Two years later followed the record Hidden Gems with previously unreleased songs and songs from B-sides. It is the last record of the band so far.
Singers and artists such as Lady Gaga or even Katy Perry describe Ace of Base as a great positive influence on their careers, without which probably never have been produced the songs like Alejandro or the album The Fame.
